“As reported by the Daily Sun last week, the group of social work professionals presented their opposition to the sections in the bills which seek to disqualify from certification all social workers who received their education in academic institutions that are not recognized by the Council of Social Work Education. In that sense, social workers who received their education and preparation outside of Puerto Rico and the U.S. do not qualify for certification, according to the proposed amendments to Law 171. That means students who opt to attend a higher education institutions places like Canada, Latin America, Europe or any other part of the world outside U.S. jurisdiction would not receive an opportunity to work as a certified social worker on the island”.
